Deepika Padukone Is Not the First Actress to Demand Eight Hour Shifts Says Siddharth P Malhotra
Director Siddharth P Malhotra recently spoke about the ongoing issue where Deepika Padukone stepped away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit. There were reports that Deepika had made some demands, one of which was an 8-hour work shift. Many people in the film industry have given their opinion on this matter.

Siddharth P Malhotra supported Deepika and said that this is not a new thing. He shared that even actresses like Rani Mukerji and Kajol had worked with such conditions in the past. He said that during the shooting of Hichki in 2018, Rani Mukerji worked only 8 hours a day, and the full film was completed in just 28 such shifts. He mentioned that everyone on the set, including the child actors, cameramen, and even the spot boys, worked under the same time limit. Chitrangda Singh Career Challenges and Comeback.

Siddharth P Malhotra also talked about his 2010 film We Are Family, where Kajol had clearly said that she would work only 8 hours a day. She used to work either from 10 AM to 6 PM, 7 AM to 2 PM, or during the night shift—but only for 8 hours. Even Kajol said in an interview that she has always followed this rule and her mother, veteran actress Tanuja, had always supported her decision.

About the Deepika-Sandeep Reddy Vanga issue, Siddharth P Malhotra said that if Deepika had told her conditions from the beginning, then the director should not have signed her if he wasn’t okay with it. He also said people are just using Deepika’s name for publicity. According to him, asking for family time is not wrong at all. He added that if a director can finish the film in limited time, there’s nothing wrong with working even 6 hours a day. BBC Faces Backlash Over Sidhu Moose Wala Documentary.
