Music legend AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu recently shocked fans around the world by announcing their separation after 29 years of marriage. The couple cited “significant emotional strain” as the reason for their decision, but their divorce lawyer, Vandana Shah, has now suggested that reconciliation might still be possible.
Custody of Children Still Pending
AR Rahman and Saira Banu have three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. When asked about custody arrangements, Vandana Shah explained, “That’s still undecided. Some of them are adults now, so they have the freedom to choose who they want to stay with.”
No Confirmation on Alimony
Vandana Shah chose not to comment on whether alimony would be a part of the divorce settlement. However, she defended Saira Banu against speculation about financial matters, stating that she should not be seen as a “money-minded woman.”
Possibility of Reconciliation
Interestingly, Vandana Shah has not completely ruled out the chance of reconciliation between AR Rahman and Saira Banu. She said, “I haven’t said that reconciliation isn’t possible. I’m an eternal optimist and always believe in love and romance. The joint statement clearly mentions pain and separation, and while a lot of thought has gone into this decision, I haven’t said reconciliation is impossible.”
A Long Marriage
AR Rahman and Saira Banu got married in 1995 and have been together for nearly three decades. Their recent announcement of their decision to part ways came as a shock to many, with the couple sharing their deeply emotional reasons for the separation.
