Suriya 44th Film Titled ‘Retro’: A Mix of Action and Romance

Suriya 44th film, titled ‘Retro’, promises to be filled with action, thrill, and emotions. In this film, Suriya plays a dangerous gangster who is also a loving husband. On Christmas Day, the filmmakers revealed the title of the movie and released a teaser, giving a glimpse into its world.

Suriya 44 teaser

What Happens in the Teaser?

The teaser, which lasts for 2 minutes and 5 seconds, opens with Suriya and Pooja Hegde sitting by the Varanasi ghat at sunset. The evening aarti is playing in the background. Pooja is seen wearing a light pink sari, while Suriya is dressed in a black kurta. She ties a band around his wrist, and Suriya looks at her, saying in Tamil:

“I will control my anger. I will stop working with my father. I will quit violence, rowdyism, and hooliganism. From now on, I will try to smile and be happy. The purpose of my life, in your words, is love. Pure love. That’s all.”

He then asks her, “So, should we get married?” Pooja kisses him on the forehead, smiles, and agrees, holding his hands.

But amidst this tender moment, flashes of Suriya’s criminal life are shown. We see him angrily punch through walls, beat up people, and engage in violent acts, hinting at his troubled past. The teaser also introduces other intense characters, played by Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Nasser.

Suriya’s Upcoming Projects

Suriya was last seen in the action-packed fantasy film Kanguva, directed by Siva, earlier this year. His next film, Retro, is produced under his banner 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films, in collaboration with his wife Jyothika. The film’s tagline is “Love, Laughter, and War”.

The music for Retro is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. The film is set to release in May 2025.

After Retro, Suriya will also be seen in another film directed by RJ Balaji, where he will reunite with Trisha Krishnan. This will be their first collaboration in nearly 20 years. They were last seen together in the 2005 film Aaru, and also worked together in Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002) and Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), directed by Mani Ratnam.

Verdict: Retro looks like it will be an exciting blend of love, action, and family drama, with a lot of promise for fans of Suriya and intense cinema. Read More…
