Ben Affleck has officially decided to step away from his role as Batman. The actor, who played the iconic superhero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, recently opened up about his decade-long journey with DC, calling it “excruciating.”

In an interview with GQ, the 52-year-old shared that his disinterest in the superhero genre wasn’t just due to the negative experiences he faced but also because he feels DC films no longer connect with younger audiences. “There were several reasons why it was a tough experience,” Affleck explained. “It’s not just about being in a superhero film. I’ve just lost interest.”
Affleck went on to reveal that his difficult time on the project was caused by a “misalignment of agendas, understandings, and expectations.” However, he acknowledged his own role in the situation as well. “I wasn’t contributing anything special either,” he admitted. “I didn’t cause issues, but I just came in, did my part, and left. You need to do more than that.” (Also read: Sunny Deol Reveals Shocking Truth About Bollywood, Talks About Family’s Big Comeback & New Film Jaat)
Reflecting on his time with DC, Affleck recognized that he didn’t bring much positive energy to the role. “Some of my shortcomings as an actor are visible in the films — but also, I was unhappy. I didn’t bring much positivity to the table,” he confessed.
Affleck first took on the role of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring alongside Henry Cavill. He also appeared in Justice League (both the 2017 theatrical version and the 2021 Snyder Cut), as well as in small roles in The Flash and Suicide Squad (2016). Affleck was initially set to direct and star in his own solo Batman film, but the project was abandoned due to creative differences. “I’ve lost interest in what used to excite me,” he said, signaling that he’s ready to leave the superhero world behind.
