Public Response Boosts ‘Chhava’ to Record Success
Chhava started receiving a great response even before its release, with strong advance bookings. But it was the positive word-of-mouth from the audience that truly made the film outperform all expectations at the box office. Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama is now leading the pack of Bollywood’s history-based films.

An Impressive Opening for ‘Chhava’
When Movie released on Friday, it quickly started winning over audiences, signaling that the film was set for big success. Over the weekend, the film gathered such large crowds that even industry experts were amazed. Vicky’s powerful portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was evident from the film’s teaser and trailer, and the songs and promotions helped build excitement. The audience’s positive feedback created a buzz that pushed the film’s box office performance beyond expectations.
A Blockbuster in Just Three Days
This movie made an impressive opening with a collection of ₹33.10 crore on Friday. The film’s momentum didn’t slow down, as positive reviews helped it grow over the weekend. On Saturday, the film earned over ₹39 crore. By Sunday, Chhava saw a remarkable 25% jump in collections, nearing ₹49 crore. In just three days, the film crossed ₹121 crore, setting a new record for Vicky Kaushal’s career.
Vicky’s Best Weekend Performance
This weekend collection is the highest ever for Vicky, surpassing his previous best, Uri: The Surgical Strike, which earned ₹36 crore on its opening weekend. Chhava almost matched Raazi’s lifetime collection of ₹123 crore in just its first weekend. It is expected that by Monday, Chhaava will easily surpass that figure.
Surpassing Other History-Based Films
Movie has outperformed big historical Bollywood films, including Padmaavat (starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor). While Padmaavat earned ₹114 crore on its opening weekend, Chhava collected ₹121 crore, and it did so in just three days. Padmaavat had the advantage of a four-day weekend as it was released on Thursday, whereas Chhava achieved its collection in just three days. This clearly shows the growing excitement around Vicky Kaushal’s film. Also Varun Dhawan honors India’s true heroes on Army Day as he gears up for his role in Border 2.
‘Chhava’ Set to Be the First Blockbuster of 2025
On Sunday, Movie earned ₹49 crore, marking the highest single-day collection for a Bollywood film in 2025 so far. With such strong performances, movie is set to continue breaking records at the box office.
This year, the highest-grossing Bollywood film so far has been Sky Force (starring Akshay Kumar), which earned ₹130 crore in total. However, Chhava’s three-day collection has already surpassed Sky Force’s weekend earnings, and by Monday, Vicky’s film is expected to outpace the total collection of Sky Force.
A Positive Future for ‘Chhava’
The audience response to the movie has been overwhelmingly positive, and for at least the next two weeks, no major Bollywood film is expected to perform better at the box office. This gives Chhava an edge. Vicky Kaushal’s earlier film, Uri, earned ₹245 crore in lifetime collections, but Chhava looks set to break into the ₹300 crore club. Reports suggest that with a budget of around ₹130-150 crore, Film is poised to become Bollywood’s first blockbuster of 2025.
