AP Dhillon: A Rising Star in Punjabi Music
AP Dhillon, famous for hits like Excuses and Brown Munde, has emerged as one of the most popular Punjabi singers in recent years. While many Punjabi artists, such as Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla, have made their mark in Bollywood, Dhillon has chosen to stay away from the film industry. Instead, he has focused on creating independent music albums, which has set him apart from his peers.
Why AP Dhillon Avoids Bollywood
In a recent interview on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, AP Dhillon shared his reasons for avoiding Bollywood. He explained, “At this point, I’m keeping my distance from movies. I don’t want to sell my music. Let others do what they want, but I want to set an example for upcoming artists.”
Dhillon emphasized his desire to stay independent and reshape the music industry. While he acknowledged that Bollywood collaborations could boost marketing efforts and listener numbers, he pointed out that these opportunities don’t align with the legacy he wants to build. “I don’t want to look back and feel like I could have made a change, but didn’t,” he added.
Turning Down Offers: AP Dhillon’s Commitment to Independence
Over the past two years, AP Dhillon has turned down numerous offers from filmmakers, including both singing and acting roles. He shared, “I’ve been offered movies and even roles in them for the last two years. I’ve been rejecting them and burning bridges because I don’t want to be like the other sheep.”
For Dhillon, the desire to stand out from the crowd and not conform to industry norms is a key part of his journey. He wants to be known for his authenticity, not for following trends.
The Disconnect Between Art and Business in Bollywood
While AP Dhillon clarified that he is not opposed to working with Bollywood in general, he pointed out a significant disconnect between the artistic and business sides of the industry. “The actors and directors get their dues, but someone else manages the business aspects. Often, what they want doesn’t align with my vision,” he explained.
Dhillon values his artistic freedom and independence over the business-driven decisions that often dominate Bollywood.
A Role Model for Aspiring Artists
By staying true to his values and choosing to remain independent, AP Dhillon continues to carve his unique path in the music industry. His journey serves as an inspiration to young, aspiring artists, encouraging them to prioritize authenticity and creativity over conforming to industry expectations.
