Anupam Kher Reunites with Robert De Niro at Cannes 2025

Veteran actor Anupam Kher had a heartwarming reunion with his old friend and co-star Robert De Niro at Cannes 2025. De Niro, the legendary Hollywood actor, was honoured with the Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
Kher, who was at Cannes for the world premiere of his directorial debut “Tanvi: The Great”, did not expect to meet De Niro. He later shared a video on social media, where De Niro is seen warmly hugging him and even planting a kiss on his cheek. In the caption, Kher called their friendship one of the “biggest blessings” of his life.
Kher wrote, “It was amazing to meet my dear friend Robert De Niro, his kind wife Tiffany, and their lovely daughter Jia in Cannes. Their love and warmth truly touched my heart.”
Anupam and De Niro had earlier worked together in the 2012 Oscar-nominated film “Silver Linings Playbook”, which also starred Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.
In the video, Kher is heard expressing his happiness about the reunion and saying that even though they don’t meet often, some friendships are like a tape recorder—just press pause and continue from where you left off.
The 81-year-old De Niro responded with affection by kissing Kher on the cheek and smiling warmly. Kher also introduced De Niro to his film team, including Shubhangi (Tanvi), and showed him the first poster of the film, which De Niro really liked.
He wrote, “Thank you, dear Mr. De Niro, for your love, that warm hug, the tasty lunch, and your brilliant presence over the years.” (Also read: Paresh Rawal Quits Hera Pheri 3 – Is This the End of Baburao?)
“Tanvi: The Great” is scheduled to premiere on May 17 in the Marche du Film segment at Cannes. The film stars Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Karan Tacker, and Iain Glen (known for Game of Thrones).
Boman Irani, who is attending Cannes for the first time, said (via NDTV), “It’s a great honour to represent Indian cinema at such a big international platform with a touching film like Tanvi: The Great.”
Talking about his role as Raza Saab, he said it was one of the most meaningful characters of his career. “Working with Anupam Kher, whom I respect deeply, made the experience even more memorable. I hope this film touches hearts around the world, just like it touched mine while playing such a deep and emotional role,” he added.
