Netflix May Have Accidentally Revealed the Exact Release Date for Squid Game Season 3

Netflix has confirmed that Squid Game season 3 will be released in 2025, as seen in multiple promos for its upcoming content. However, they may have accidentally leaked the exact release date: June 27, 2025. This revelation came after a video was briefly posted on Netflix Korea, which mentioned not just the year, but the specific date—just six months away. If this date is accurate, it would be surprisingly fast, considering it took three years for Squid Game to move from season 1 to season 2.

Is It Really ‘Season 3’ or Part 2 of Season 2?

For those who have watched season 2 and followed the creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, it’s clear that season 3 is more like Part 2 of season 2 than a completely new season. Hwang Dong-hyuk himself explained that he originally planned Squid Game as a single series. However, as the story progressed, it became too long for just one season, leading to a split. The story focuses on Gi-hun’s journey and his failed attempt at leading a revolt, which serves as a key climax. This resulted in the decision to divide it into two seasons, with the first part exploring the revolt’s failure and Gi-hun’s personal loss.

A Huge Story, Split Into Two Seasons

Production for both seasons happened at the same time, so the three-year gap was partly due to creating a massive 14-episode arc. Although Netflix has recently followed a trend of splitting popular series into two parts, Squid Game‘s split is a bit different. Rather than releasing parts months apart, the episodes will come six months apart, with each part containing seven hour-long episodes. It’s still being referred to as “season 3” due to the continuity of the story, but technically, it could be seen as a continuation of season 2.

Why the Quick Release?

Netflix likely wants to resolve the cliffhangers from season 2 as soon as possible, especially considering the huge demand from fans. Additionally, Netflix has big plans for the second half of 2025. With Stranger Things season 5 and Wednesday season 2 also scheduled for release, Netflix seems to be spacing out these massive shows to keep audiences engaged throughout the year.

When Will Other Big Shows Air?

Based on the filming schedules for Stranger Things and Wednesday, here’s an estimate for their release:

  • Stranger Things season 5 wrapped filming in December 2024. If we follow the pattern from previous seasons, it will likely take about eight months of post-production, meaning the release could be in August or maybe October 2025.
  • Wednesday season 2, on the other hand, could release in July 2025, right after Squid Game season 3, or perhaps later in November 2025 to align with the anniversary of its first season.

A Big Year for Netflix

It seems that 2025 will be a huge year for Netflix, with Squid Game, Stranger Things, and Wednesday all potentially releasing in a staggered schedule. My guess is that Squid Game will air in June, Stranger Things in September or October, and Wednesday in November or December. We’ll have to wait and see, but 2025 looks set to be an incredible year for Netflix fans.
